Best thing we could’ve done!
It cost us £695 however the results from this in-depth audit enabled us to be able to question our current SEO company as to why certain things were off-kilter. Needless to say with us now sounding more knowledgeable the SEO company started to do a bit more work and things improved.

We have 3 more months with the current company after which we are moving everything to brianEcohen.com, as they clearly know what they are doing and they’ve given us full credit for the report against the new contract. Gotta love that!

Annie had used BLF and was waxing lyrical about them to her friend who just happened to be our CEO’s wife. Annie said that BLF were so lovely, not at all like the impression people have of law firms and lawyers. Annie knowing that her friend’s husband was “into all that internet stuff” might be able to help BLF become more well known and to help them do more business.

The meeting was setup. BLF were using a digital marketing guy who (according to BLF) is the go to guy in legal marketing. (Funny, I thought that was us!)

They were spending £2500 per month and they were averaging monthly invoicing from this online activity of just over £18,000 monthly.
BLF were quite happy with these returns, however they did feel somewhat neglected by the “expert” who whilst wooing them to sign up with his services, was to coin the words of the Senior Partner of BLF “all over us like a cheap suit in the rain and then once the contract was signed, we didn’t hear from him again but for a mechanical delivery of the monthly invoice”.

BLF had expected that said consultant was going to be helping them build their business, by sharing tips and tricks learned in other firms. BLF had expected the consultant to be one of their on-call advisors, like a business mentor or BDM (Business Development Manager). It didn’t go that way at all.

We offered BLF an opportunity to have their online presence audited and we gave an undertaking that they would receive a report showingif their online presence and website were running on all eight cylinders as a smooth well engineered money-making machine or if it needed a tune-up. If all was good then no problem, carry on with the Go To man for legal marketing. If however we find clear omissions and neglect then you might want to consider swapping over to us, and get to see what a real DMA can do for you as well as being your BDM.
That was agreed, and off we went to do what we do best.

To be brutally honest, almost every DMA will find fault and omissions in the work of another firm when they ae trying to win over a new client. They almost always suggest a completely new website as a starting point. We take great pride in not playing that game. When we do an audit we serve up the good and the bad, and within the bad, we make it clear how much real difference fixing it might make. We are far more focused on seeing if we can fix things, make a noticeable difference by means of improvement, and seeing if we like the client. We never work with clients that we don’t like – it really is that simple!

Anyways, long and short of it, BLF were absolutely lovely, and to their detriment at that time, completely hopeless at running a profitable business. They were doing more pro bono work than any firm their size, in fact any three firms their size. They had heart, conscience and an incredible track record of never losing a legal case. Don’t misunderstand this! They didn’t always get the win first time, but never lost an appeal.

So we did the audit. They were being taken for a ride! There was absolutely no work being done on their behalf and their consultant was taking liberties with their trusting good nature. The other option of course might have been that he just didn’t know what to do to make BLF shine online

We pointed out the herd of elephants in the room, and BLF became our clients. They exercised the termination conditions and the Go To guy went off without even the slightest struggle or re-pitch to save the client. How strange!
BLF gave us the £2500 per month and after month five of our involvement, BLF never invoiced less than £43,000. BLF also now have an excellent BDM at their beck and call 24/7 in the shape of our CEO who is helping them grow and diversify.
BLF are now very much the Go To law firm for their niche, and that is seen clearly by how they dominate the search engine results. Business has never been so good, and they still do too much pro bono!

TPD approached us because they were looking to swell the numbers of enquiries that they were receiving each day.
They understood that the only thing preventing them from doing more business was to have more qualified inbound leads.
Already using telesales, and generating additional leads from airport and shopping mall booths, they sought to add a marketing spoke to the wheel through online marketing.

TPD had been recommended via a mutual client for whom we had successfully built a positive online reputation.
The great thing about working with TPD was that they were already fully conversant with how marketing worked and had no issues in spending money to get the results they required to meet their expansion plans.

We agreed a monthly retainer and an initial online spend and we went to work, firstly creating relevant landing pages, analysing the “pay per click” keywords and competition, improving the searchability of their website and generally boosting their online presence.
Within three months, TPD had built up their sales team to such a size that they moved offices and then in the following 8 month period, opened additional offices in other countries to service the client growth.

As a case study, what TPD gained was a very well managed online presence which has subsequently over the years taken them to become leaders in their field.

None of our online marketing programs ever fail. The sales income generated from a well-managed online marketing campaign should represent a minimum of 5 times the marketing spend. This is a very conservative “rule of thumb” and depending upon your industry, the Return on Investment can be very much higher. With TPD, their achieved sales total (ROI sales to spend) was 300 times more than their spend.

PPS is a very sweet story of success, where the owner was parent to a child at school with one of our Director’s children. The morning coffee chit chat led to an introduction and it moved from there.

PPS wanted to secure more business. They already had a website, they had been paying some web master around £600 per month however PPS felt it was not doing anything marvellous in terms of its presence, and felt they were just another “run of the mill” company touting for business on the internet.

It was made clear by PPS that they did not have a lot of money to spend on marketing, and they voiced several times that we should not get too busy developing plans that would incur high costs.

(What is it that makes clients scared of costs? Are we projecting an image of “unaffordable consulting services”? Maybe potential clients have experienced failure from utilising other supposed experts and so think we must be expensive if we are going to actually do the job successfully. Hopefully we will address that in our case studies!)

This was duly noted and we set about conducting a full online audit of the niche industry, the competition, and PPS.
Focusing on what had to be done, we presented PPS with a plan which involved tweaking the website to make it far more “findable”, a content creation strategy, linking social media platforms and taking a far more “appealing position” in how PPS projected themselves. After a little bit of to-ing and fro-ing we agreed upon a plan of action to run over a six month period after which time things would be revised for the next year.

The spend initially for PPS was the very conservative sum of £900 per month. This was affordable and gave PPS a chance to appreciate the difference that having us on board was making in terms of enquiries and subsequent party bookings.

After a couple of months of us applying our “magic & sparkle” to the online presence of PPS, their website had moved from “run of the mill” obscurity to becoming a bit of an authority. PPS were seen by the search engine algorithms to be actively engaged in party planning, and so the PPS website was rapidly climbing the SERPS (search engine results pages) for just about every related keyword.

PPS moved their focus from the short term “let’s make some noise” style of marketing to a far more professional, mature, and long-lasting approach where they were building strong organic presence.

PPS reckoned that they pulled in more than 15 extra parties in the first 3 months that they were using us as their Digital Marketing Agency, and in terms of their return on investment, their order book had swollen by around £63,000, thus by their calculations, it was working, we were delivering.

PPS increased their spend after just 6 weeks. They took advantage of our content creation services and decided upon accelerating everything we had planned. We started a small but meticulously managed “pay per click” campaign of £1000 per month and we increased the content production. Over the initial 3 month period, PPS had spent including the PPC spend a total of £7,500. As the PPS boss said, the total spend had been covered just by the £10,000 in deposits taken for the future parties, and they still had another £50k plus on the books. PPS have now branched into wedding planning and their reputation is stronger than ever.
